The first day of the 2016 UIU convention was fun for us. It was amazing to see so many Igbo’s in one place together fellow-shipping and having a good time. Of course there seems to be more girls than boys here, and we slightly feel like people are out here looking for husband’s not potential boyfriends, but it all makes for a good and humorous time.
The first night, Thursday night, was packed with cool things to do aimed to the Igbo millennials in attendance, ranging from ages 21 to 45. After registration, the 1st event that started at 6pm , UIU Café- Tales by the Moonlight, guests were given beverages and encouraged to mix and mingle. At 9pm, well at 9:45 to be exact (you know us Africans be on serious African Time LOL ) the comedy show began. The comedy show was hosted by the popular Igbo duo from the The Nne and Ike show. We enjoyed the funny and realistic material based on the Igbo experience presented by African Kings of Comedy comedians. But our favorite comedian was the only female comedian Yvonne Orji.
Her content was so strong a relatable as fellow Igbo female creative’s. Every joke hit home, especially when she said “my parents wonder why I’m single but you use to tell me” “ don’t date until you get married” LOL Chineke , we almost fell out of our chairs. After tons of laughter, the night ended at with an after party, where we were all invited to dance, dance, dance.
Now it’s time for us to get ready for Day 2!
